Tiglio is a historic villa with terraced gardens looking out over the Pratolino hills, very close to Fiesole and Florence. This is the perfect spot to relax in the Tuscan countryside and still be able to be in the centre of Florence visiting the Uffizi, the Duomo and more, with just a short train ride.
A haven of tranquility, Tiglio is in a historic villa and its spacious rooms are lined with books, many of them published by the owner, founder of a well-respected publishing house. Large arches open onto a furnished garden with various terraced levels, each a perfect spot to relax with a good book and a glass of wine. The last large section of the garden houses your private swimming pool, shaded by mature trees. The villa is in the hills overlooking the Val di Mugnone, barely a couple of miles from Fiesole, in a landscape of olive groves and vineyards, with some darker patches of forest, reminiscent of the landscapes visible as the backdrops in many of Leonardo da Vinci's famous works.
The thick stone walls, hill breeze and shading terracotta roofs guarantee cool temperatures in the house even during the summer months, and the bedrooms also have airconditioning to ensure comfortable nights. This is a house that allows to share the lifestyle of the Florentines, the perfect mix of history, culture and relaxation - not forgetting the fabulous food and wine!
Fiesole is older than Florence, founded by the Romans who had a famously good eye for the best spots in the landscape, high above the valley to capture the breeze; this area is still one of the most desirable spots around Florence, with some beautiful villas built in the hills over the centuries.
Tiglio is one of the lucky few, part of a large villa with gated grounds, surrounded by greenery but very close to Florence.
After parking under the trees you go through a gate and walk up an alleyway shaded by wysteria, then turn to the villa entrance after a moment to enjoy the beautiful vista that opens up as you turn the corner. Inside, turning left a few steps take you to the ground floor into a large living-room and an adjoining studio/library, both lined with books which speak of the owners' love and careers in publishing. Large arched windows looked out onto a furnished terrace.
Beyond the studio and living-room there is a large kitchen for breakfast and a dining room.
A wide stone staircase leads up to three large double rooms with three en-suite bathrooms.
Outside there is a 3-level garden with a private swimming pool and external bathroom. On the furnished terrace in front of the house there are two big outdoor dining tables.
Fiesole is a short 10 minute drive away from Tiglio, and has a Roman amphitheatre where concerts and events are still held today, as well as a beautiful Cathedral, museums and some excellent restaurants.
Florence itself is only a 15 minute train ride away so it is very easy to visit all the famous sights of the Renaissance city from here. Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi, Piazza della Signoria, Brunelleschi's cupolone and so much more are all within easy reach.
Further afield, the Chianti region is within easy reach, as are Pisa, Siena, Pistoia and Volterra, making Tiglio the perfect base for exploring the region.
