Residing along the Ligurian seacoast has much to do with height, and living in Lerici is no exception. The town has a lift, with limited opening times, to take visitors from the port to the "poggio", or the highest point on the cliff, and it is here that Casa Letizia is located, just 100 yards from Lerici Castle. Like most Ligurian houses, this delightful house is organised on four floors, built directly on a cliff overlooking the Bay of La Spezia. From its terraces there are breathtaking views of the islands of Palmaria and Tino, as well as the once pirate village of Porto Venere.
Accommodation
In this charmingly furnished, architect designed house, you enter on the top floor and work your way down. On this floor there is a small kitchenette, a bathroom and a double bedroom with a small terrace overlooking the sea below. Descending a black slate spiral staircase you reach a spacious living room, which extends into a flowered terrace overlooking the sea. This floor has a fully equipped kitchen and the second entrance. Another spiral staircase leads you down to the third floor and a twin bedroom, a bathroom, and another kitchenette. In this house, you don't have to go very far for a quick snack or a cup of coffee. To reach the fourth floor, you step out of the house onto a landing and follow the seven steps down to reach the last, small bedroom, which has a single bed, a pull out bed, and a shower room.
Around Casa Letizia
The house is lovingly cared for by "Adele" who has been working for the owner's family for many years, and who is also, on request, a very good cook. Whether you enjoy Adele's or your own favourite recipes on the terrace or head to "Cicilo", the floating restaurant at the bottom of the cliff, this rocky perch will allow you the peace and perspective of waters which have inspired poets. Public transport makes a car unnecessary here, but good legs are essential.
