The province of Padua is west from Venice, a prosperous flatland with some fabulous sights to visit, from the beautiful frescoes by Giotto in the Scrovegni Chapel, to the buildings of the city's University, founded in 1222! The landscape around Padua has some interesting smaller towns, like the walled towns of Cittadella and Montagnana.
There are fabulous places to walk and explore in the hills south of Padua, the famous Colli Euganei. Lastly, of course, it's a great base from which to visit Venice, just a few miles east.
