Pian di Radda is a villa for 12 guests in the heart of Chianti, between Florence and Siena. Once a farmhouse, it has been converted with great care and taste to make it a stylish and comfortable country retreat. The heavy stone walls and chestnut beamed ceilings have been retained, but the interiors have been lightened and modernised with judicious lightwells, simple clean lines and a tasteful touch with decor and furnishings.
This is a very special villa and a delight to stay in, with fabulous views over vineyards from its position on a Chianti hilltop, and with a private pool, a gym, steam room and a children's playground to make sure comforts are not overlooked. There is even a wine-cellar in the basement from which you can buy wines produced on the estate without having to leave the house.
Radda in Chianti is a short distance away, just over 3kms, with restaurants and shops.
This impressive building was once a watchtower, guarding the approach to Radda in Chianti. Today, after an impressive conversion, it has three floors, with the lowest smaller and partially underground due to the building being built into the natural slope of the hill.
This lowest floor today houses a wine cellar with a selection of wines for sale, a gym with weights, rowing machine, a fixed cycle, yoga equipment, and a TV. There is also a wonderful "wellness area" with a turkish bath, basin and a shower. Lastly you'll find two bathrooms here, one with a bath, the other with a shower, and a Laundry room.
Also on this lower level you'll find a spacious loggia, furnished for alfresco dining with wonderful views out over the vineyards.
The ground floor is the main living area of the house, with a spacious living-room with sofas and armchairs facing a fireplace and a TV. A dining room seats 12 and is placed next to the professional kitchen, available for guests' use but also ideal for visiting caterers and chefs. One of the six double-bedrooms is also on the ground floor, as well as a room with two single beds that can be used for guests or children - it has no ensuite bathroom and is not counted in the overall guest numbers for the house. Guest bathroom with WC and washbasin.
Unusually this house also has a lift, or elevator, between the ground and first floors, making it a convenient choice for those who find stairs difficult.
Upstairs there is a further living room, surrounded by 5 double bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms with showers. Two of the double bedrooms also have walk-in wardrobes.
From this villa all the delights of Chianti are on your doorstep, from Radda which is just a short drive away - or even a walk for the more energetic, to the other towns of the region like Castellina in Chianti, so prized by the Medici that they commissioned a fortress to protect it, Panzano and Greve in Chianti, whose street markets and wide piazzas are reasons for a visit and Castello di Brolio, where the standards for Chianti wine were set. The unofficial capital of the region and a typical Chianti Village, Radda plays host to several festivals and events throughout the summer, most, though not all, having to do with what is poured into a glass.
Siena is within easy reach too, just 25 km away - or a 45 minute drive along wonderful curving roads that weave their way through the vine and forest clad hills of Chianti. Other famous art cities of Tuscany are also easily visited from this beautiful villa, with Arezzo and Florence an hour's drive away. The towered delight that is San Gimignano is also around an hour away by car, while the Val d'Orcia, with more wine centres like Montalcino and Montepulciano, and historical villages like Pienza and Buonconvento, is just over an hour's drive.

Many local administrations now charge a “Tourist Tax” for people staying in rented accommodation and these vary from town to town. The charges are generally per person per night with a maximum number of nights, usually around 5 but sometimes 7, beyond which they will not charge. The charges range between 50 cents to 5 euro. Children are sometimes included, sometimes not and these charges should be collected by the property owners.
