Ginestreto 10

Tuscan Villa with pool and Tennis court : Ancaiano, Siena

Nice little touches

  • The Montagnola Senese and Villa Cetinale are magical places redolent with history - the area around Ginestreto is a very special place to visit and explore.

Good to know

  • The access road is ona gravel track that can be bumpy
  • This house prefers long rentals, a minimum of 2 weeks, and arrivals on any day other than a Saturday

Ginestra is in a beautifully romantic area in the Montagnola hills, which merge into the finely kept country garden. Gnarled olive trees are embellished with climbing, scented roses in wild flower lawns. The landscaping follows the contours of the hills, interrupted by gentle terraces bordered with low, flower covered stone walls, giving individual private spots, taking full advantage of the superb views. The private unmade lane through woodlands to the house ends in a shaded parking area from where a short cypress lined walk leads to the house and cottage. The external aspect of the house is left untouched to preserve its Tuscan aspect intact. Owned by a charming aristocratic couple who live in Rome, from the first contact this property gives a feeling of warm comfort.

Sloping lawns lead to a furnished, vine-shaded patio next to the swimming pool at the rear. Oaks, olives and cypresses frame the hard tennis court higher up. Softly cocooned in the beauty of characteristic Tuscan countryside, Ginestra happily adapts for family holidays as easily as it provides prestigious accommodation for formal occasions. A holiday here will leave you with indelible memories of subtle luxury and peace.

Accommodation

On the main entrance level, the comfortable sitting room has sofas and a Bechstein piano on one side, and dining furniture and a fireplace on the other separated by an archway.

On the first floor are two twin bedrooms, one with a shower room ensuite, a separate bathroom, a double bedroom with a four-poster bed and ensuite bathroom and a charming sitting room with a fireplace.

From the farmhouse kitchen on the lower ground floor, stairs lead down to a large formal dining room and drawing room. French windows open into an open-fronted covered loggia with flowers framing the views. This is as perfect a spot for lunch as it is for convivial candle lit suppers. A shower-room and a small kitchen make life easy for eating downstairs and outside.

Pale, colour-washed walls, terracotta floors and wood-beamed ceilings are enhanced with high quality furnishing and fabrics blending perfectly with the rustic origins of this very special, elegant country home.

The charming cottage for extra guests is next to the house. Joined by an external staircase, one floor has a double bedroom and shower-room, the other a twin bedroom and bathroom.

FAQ about Ginestreto

1. What's the approach road like?

The approach road to Ginestreto is a gravel track and the last section goes through the holm oaks at the bottom of Villa Cetinale's formal gardens. It can be a little bumpy so make sure you hire a car with decent clearance. Fiat Panda is always my favourite, but I last went to the house in a Citroen C4 and it was no problem at all.

Around Ginestreto

The house is in the grounds at the very bottom of the formal gardens of Villa Cetinale, and the whole area around Ginestreto is wonderful for walking and exploring. From the house you can easily walk up to a hermitage, or further on to a twelth-century church, and for those who enjoy long hikes there are lots of places to wander directly from the grounds.

Siena is a short drive away, as are Monteriggioni, San Gimignano and the Chianti Hills. Heading further south you'll find the rolling hills of the Val d'Orcia, with the beautiful hill towns of Pienza, Montalcino and more to explore.

Worth knowing

Many local administrations now charge a “Tourist Tax” for people staying in rented accommodation and these vary from town to town. The charges are generally per person per night with a maximum number of nights, usually around 5 but sometimes 7, beyond which they will not charge. The charges range between 50 cents to 5 euro. Children are sometimes included, sometimes not and these charges should be collected by the property owners.
