Ropoli Sopra 4

A Tuscan farmhouse with loggia close to Siena : Rosia, Siena

Nice little touches

  • From its cosy furnished loggia Ropoli Sopra has some of the best views on the Estate
  • Family reunions find taking Ropoli Sotto and Sopra a great arrangement.
  • Though the apartment has great peace and quiet, the estate organises Pizza evenings and other communal activities which guests are welcome to join in.

Good to know

  • Pets are welcome, but only in Mid and Low seasons and never allowed around the swimming pools

Montestigliano is a historic Tuscan estate west of Siena, on top of a hill with fabulous views. Some of the farmhouses and agricultural buildings on the vast estate have been carefully converted into comfortable houses and apartments. Guests on the estate share two swimming pools, one reserved for those who want peace and quiet, the other, further from the houses, for allowing free rein to summer holiday fun.

The hamlet is reached by winding up the hill on an ancient "strada bianca", a gravel road. The two Ropoli buildings are halfway up the hill. Stopping midway up the hill has some advantages and Ropoli Sopra enjoys them all.

It has sweeping uninterrupted views of the valley and the hills that surround it, is has greater quiet than that found in the Estate's central piazza, and it has an olive grove in its back garden and a pizza oven at hand. The Family Pool is just a short walk up the drive.

Accommodation

Entrance to the apartment is from the loggia, a spot that quickly becomes guests' favorite place to linger and watch the world go by.

Furnished for meals al fresco, it is just a door away from the open-plan main room comprising a living area with a sofa and armchairs in front of an open fireplace and a well-crafted kitchen area with an island and a dining table for four.

A long corridor leads up to two bedrooms, a double and a twin, which share a shower room. There is a covered parking area below Damiano, the house across the drive, and with their car safely stowed, guests will find it a short walk to the closest pool, the Family Pool, just at the top of the drive.

“ The stay at Ropoli was wonderful ”

The stay at Ropoli was wonderful. The house was absolutly perfect for our family of 4. It was cosy and tastefull. We had lovely walks in Montestigliano, and we enjoyed delicious restaurants around thanks to Francesco. The team at Mostestigliano was very hepful with all sort of questions and always ready to help. The autumn in the region is very beautiful and quiet. We are planing to be back and already spotted some other property on Invitation To Tuscany website!

“ Family of five in Ripoli Sopra for a week in mid-July. ”

We had a very nice stay. In particular, we would like to emphasize:

• The Borgo is really beautiful, including the vegetable garden, which we were allowed to buy some from • It is brilliant to have both a family and quiet pool. None of them were overrun, so that was really nice • The staff, Ifrat and Francesco, are very nice and welcoming hosts • The kitchen in the house is suitable for your own cooking • Common dining and the pizza evening were really wonderful and atmospheric • Their own cooking course is cheap (compared to others), and very cozy in their beautiful kitchen, but it's not that much you learn (we were persuaded by another group to join) • It is quiet at night

On the minus side, we would only mention that it was very hot, and we suggested that they install air conditioning in the bedrooms. The heat was surprising for the hosts as well, and several had said the same, and they wanted to watch it.

We can highly recommend a stay. We have previously been to Montalbino in the autumn - which has the advantage that they also run a very delicious restaurant with their own ingredients. But Montestigliano is just as good, overall.

Around Ropoli Sopra

Guests on the estate share two swimming pools, one reserved for those who want peace and quiet, the other, further from the houses, for allowing free rein to summer holiday fun. Guests at all the properties may wander at will all over the estate. Part of the lands front the River Merse, which has excellent swimming and is protected for bathers by the Sienese authorities. The tiny village of Torri, with its famous monastery and striped cloisters is two minutes away by car, while there are pizzerie and restaurants within a few minutes' drive. A very important extra here is provided by the charming owners who will unobtrusively keep out of your way or happily go out of their way to help you, providing endless extra services if you require them, from sending faxes, arranging balloon trips, providing touring information, to translating at the doctor's.

During the summer concerts and exhibitions are often organised in the ancient granary, an extraordinary lofty space (14 X 28 m.) spanned by great arches laced with tie bars. This barn is also very suitable as studio space for art courses or conferences, and the rooms below, next to the estate offices, include a games room with billiards, TV, ping pong, a dining room, a catering kitchen and a small gift shop. The little restaurant provides delightful suppers twice a week.
