Casa Etrusca is a beautiful home for 8 to 9 guests in a small village in Tuscany. With restaurants and shops within easy walking distance, and a private garden with a plunge pool, this house has the best of both worlds, immersed in Tuscan village life but still with plenty of privacy. The house was an important building in the village and this still shows today through its formal facade and elegant presence. Today it has been transformed into an elegant village home for up to 9 guests, with 4 en-suite doubles and an extra single for a teen or a guest, all fully airconditioned.
Unusually for a village home, Casa Etrusca also has a garden. This haven of greenery among the medieval brickwork, with the addition of a plunge pool, is the perfect place to relax and cool down after a long day exploring the museums, art cities or wineries of the region. This is a house perfect for those who wish to immerse themselves in the Italian culture and experience village life.
There is an office desk equipped with a wireless printer, and the wifi in Etrusca is 1GB fibre-fast, making this a perfect place for a workation. Lower occupancy stays (four guests or lower) have a 15% discount.
The village has a restaurant, Locanda di Castelmustia, a very short walk away, around a minute's walk. The village also has a COOP supermarket within easy walking distance.
Casa Etrusca is listed under the following categories:
The house is entered from a little square just before the medieval gateway to the village, into a wide hallway with a beautiful shallow vault of terracotta bricks. Straight ahead wide stone steps lead upstairs, and french doors afford a glimpse toward the garden. On the right, near the front door, you'll find a spacious double bedroom, ideal for those with mobility problems. There is a bathroom for this bedroom across the corridor. On the left you'll find a beautiful and well-equipped kitchen and a dining room, split by a double-faced fireplace, ideal for warming the evenings in the shoulder seasons. French doors lead out from the dining room to a terrace ideal for an aperitivo or an evening meal.
Heading upstairs there is a sitting area and three bedrooms: two doubles and a single, with two bathrooms. There is also a study/office, ideal for those who can work from home and stretch their holidays further.
Going upstairs again, the second floor has a beautiful and large double bedroom under the eaves, and a bathroom with a freestanding clawfoot bathtub.
At the back of the house a further Terrace has sunbeds set out to enjoy the garden views , while in the garden itself a plunge pool provides a welcome way to cool down in the summer heat.
Castelmuzio is a small but historic village; First mentioned in the 9th century it is undoubtedly much older, built on an old volcanic tufa plug, a position beloved by the Etruscans for defence and for the ease with which tunnels and tombs could be carved into the soft rock. Today it is a small village rich in history, with the remains of its past as a fortified castle still easy to trace in the medieval walls, stone gate and watch tower. It has a cafe/bar, a restaurant and a small coop store, enough to ensure to don't have to get in your car unless you're off to explore the countryside.
When you do explore, you'll find that you're surrounded by all sorts of delights, from hilltop towns like Pienza, Montisi, Montepulciano and Montalcino, to the famous art cities like Siena, Arezzo and Florence. There are thermal baths nearby, in Bagno Vignoni, San Casciano, and Rapolano Terme, as well as wineries, museums and wild swimming galore. This is the perfect base for exploring Tuscany, as well as nearby Umbria with Lake Trasimeno and Perugia within an hour's drive.
