Love makes beautiful places, and this home has been created with utter love for the landscape, for gardening, and for art. Villa dei Fiori is a delight to visit and to stay in, with beautifully curated gardens, a private pool and a myriad of spots to pause and smell the flowers, both literally and metaphorically), in the gardens that surround the house. Every chance to make the place more beautiful has been seized enthusiastically with both hands by the owner: the ex-farmhouse's old well has been turned into a circular shaded pergola with views out over the landscape past a giant umbrella pine. The requirement for a pump-room for the private swimming pool has been transformed into a chance to build a tripartite brick portico by the pool, and on and on, this house is a delight.
The eclectic taste of the designer owner is apparent in the interiors too, with care taken over every detail to ensure a wonderful stay. The house is decorated with antique pieces found in antiquarians' all over italy, including some striking sacred paintings reminiscent of Caravaggio with their dramatic lighting.
Villa dei Fiori is listed under the following categories:
The house is entered up a short stairway leading to a covered portico, large enough for a table to enjoy an al-fresco breakfast under, and into a living room with a large stone fireplace surrounded by sofas and armchairs. The well-equipped live-in kitchen is beyond the living room, with windows looking out over the rear garden, full of flowers.
To the left is the first double bedroom with a king-sized bed and an ensuite shower-room. Upstairs you'll find a further double bedroom with a king-sized canopied bed, and an ensuite bathroom, with beautiful patterned blue tiles surrounding a claw-foot bath-tub, and a shower. This upper floor bedroom has two arched windows with beautiful views over the landscape.
Downstairs, below the kitchen and living room, there is a wine cellar fashioned out of what would have been the stables in the old farmhouse, and now equipped with a table, stools and a selection of fabulous local wines that you can buy via an honesty box. This lower ground floor also houses the laundry, and has double doors that open onto the garden at the rear of the property.
The building, which also houses a home sometimes used by the owner, is surrounded by a beautifully cared-for garden, with a fountain next to a shaded brick pergola, walk ways past aromatic plants, and plenty of spots to pause and relax.
It's a short and well-maintained gravel track, about 200 metres
