Lunigiana

Lunigiana

The magical valleys of northern Tuscany

In the very north of Tuscany, between the Apuan Alps and the Apennines, is the area known as Lunigiana, once controlled by the Lunis until conquered by the Romans.

The city of Luni is still visible by the coast, near where the Magra river meets the sea. The Lunigiana is still a hidden area of Tuscany, less well-known than the areas around Florence and Siena, and it is a wonderful place to explore.

Because of its particular position, it has access to higher mountain and to the coast - you can ski in the morning and swim in the mediterranean in the afternoon.
