Family friendly villa for 6 with private pool within walking distance of charming village of Cabrieres d'Avignon. Relaxing outdoor spaces surrounded by beautiful walking country make this a perfect house for a family holiday. The nearby area is dotted with interesting villages like Gordes, Oppede le Vieux, Fontaine des Vaucluse.
Maison de Timole is a pretty, stone-clad village house set on the edge of Cabrieres D'Avignon, a medieval village dating beyond the 11th century. Its rear garden overlooks the countryside leading to the famous 'Mur de la Peste' and the front garden, once the area for villagers to bring their corn to be threshed, has views to the nearby Luberon Mountains visible above the old Provencal tiled roofs of the nearby village houses. Its rare to find such a peaceful village house, minutes from shops and restaurants. Within 10 minutes on foot you can return to the house with a bag full of croissants and a baguette tucked under your arm, ready for a leisurely breakfast on the terrace under the shady mulberry tree.
The house has been sympathetically renovated, retaining old features. The bathrooms and kitchen are state of the art, the living room with open plan dining area and fireplace is bright and spacious with french doors leading to the rear dining patio. The house is on one level with a couple of steps between the living area and the bedrooms. Lots of privacy as each of the three bedrooms are in different parts of the house and has its own bathroom. One bedroom has a mezzanine area above it, which is not suitable for small children, but this can be closed off with a child gate. The bedrooms are comfortable, spacious and bright, with beamed ceilings and each has french doors giving outside access. There are two queen-size double bedrooms and one double bedroom which can be made into a twin upon request. The double/twin bedroom has a bath and separate shower, the two doubles have showers only. Each bathroom has its own toilet.
The owner of this house is a keen cook so the kitchen is particularly well equipped. She even provides a folder of her favourite Provencal recipes for you to try, when you return laden with fresh produce from the local markets. There are two outside dining areas, one under the shade of the mulberry tree on the patio beside the kitchen, and the other in the cool pool house. To complete your outdoor dining experience there is a large 'Outback' gas BBQ. The living/dining room is a spacious open-plan area with two french doors leading to the rear patio, an open fire place, large flat screen TV, DVD player, CDs and books. There's a fabulous new swimming pool with UV filtration and electric safety cover and a spacious pool house with dining table, chairs, sink, overhead tropical style fan, toilet and poolside shower.
The villa was everything we wanted it to be, great decor and every possible comfort, in a quiet village but close to everything. Again it all ran smoothly with the pickup from Avignon a great help. Jenny the Aussie was very helpful, as was Rosie, an English resident of the village. They gave us great tips on the best markets etc. also told us about the best local restaurant.S.T. from Australia staying in Maison de Timole . Sep 2019
I've stayed here a number of times now with my family, and we all love it. Just the right distance from the village for going in for pain-au-chocolat and croissants in the morning, yes still feels private and quiet. There are fantastic walks and cycle rides in the area, and the house is spacious and relaxing. Local villages include Gordes, which is magical, and Vaucluse, with an amazing river that springs fully formed from the base of a limestone cliff. Avignon is not far up the road - close enough in fact, that I have been known to hop on the Eurostar in London with my Brompton and then cycle into Cabrieres d'avignon on arrival!D.W. staying in Maison de Timole . Cabrieres d'Avignon is at the western end of the beautiful Luberon valley, close to the famous and much photographed village of Gordes. The area is rich in places to visit and things to do. For the gourmets there are excellent restaurants and beautiful wineries to visit, while for the more culturally inclined history abounds.
A short drive away visitors can see the Abbey of Senanque, which you may well have seen in photos or postcards, with fields of purple lavender stretching to the doors of the Cistercian Abbey.
Around the corner is Vaucluse, a closed valley with an enormous spring of water pouring out of the base of the cliffs, which used to power paper-mills and other industries. Now the town is a sweet tourist base.
Further down the valley the river splits to filter in charming channels though Iles de la Sorges, a market town. Avignon, with the Palais des Papes, the 15th century palace from the brief period when Popes left Rome, is a treasure trove, as is Aix en Provence.
For the more active there are myriads of delights - excellent walking straight from the door of the house, very good cycling and mountainbiking, including Mont Ventoux not too far away - I have cycled directly from the house. There is also good climbing in the area, and a Via Ferrata in nearby Cavaillon.
