Via della Colonna 2

Elegant apartment for two in Florence Centre : Via della Colonna.

Nice little touches

  • The flat is an oasis of calm in the very centre of Florence, the perfect base for exploring the city.

This elegant apartment in the historic centre of Florence is the ideal location to explore the gems of this Renaissance city. Near enough to explore by foot, but far enough to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and relax with home comforts!

Situated on the second floor of an old noble building dating back to 1600, the family crest still adorns the facade of the palazzo. The entrance is lovely, something not common in many Florentine buildings, still retaining the original architectural decoration; black and white chequered marble paving, a little wrought iron gate in the hallway where once upon a time callers would have stopped to leave left their calling cards. Two flights of wide stone steps lead up to the apartment, but better still there is an elevator which at the end of a hard day sightseeing or when hauling suitcases up and down is a relief for weary bones.

The apartment has been sympathetically restored with the care, attention and complete respect for its historic importance, but naturally with the additions of today’s modern comforts. The large airy living room has a beautifully frescoed ceiling and the kitchen and the bedroom retains the original coffered ceiling. The floors throughout are of wide plank honey coloured oak. There is queen sized sofa bed for an occasional additional guest or two, please ask your agent if you'd like to be more than two.

Accommodation

A small, separate fully equipped kitchen with an ochre and cream granite tiled floor and travertine work surfaces is ideal for preparing breakfast, light meals… or for creating full culinary experiences. There is a capsule coffee machine and a French press for your morning perc.

A cosy bedroom with simple white washed walls and coffered ceiling, with a warm contrast of antique and modern furnishings, two singles or double as you please. A walk in closet provides space for both clothes and storage.

A small hall leads to the bathroom clad in grey and white Carrara marble with a large shower 80x120cm. A alcove cupboard houses a washer-dryer.

“ We highly recommend staying here ”

We throughly enjoyed meeting Sue and wished we had had more time to spend with her. Her recommendations from neighborhood restaurant dining options to sights to see off the beaten path were superb. Her lovely apartment is conveniently located and is furnished and equipped with everything one could possibly need. We highly recommend staying here.

“ Beautiful property ideally situated ”

The flat was elegant and comfortable; we felt that every item had been carefully selected to add to the overall effect. The location was ideal for viewing the sights of Florence - the art, the buildings, the shops… We were close to the Duomo and within easy walking reach of the Arno and the Ponte Vecchio. The choice of restaurants and cafes was amazing! We had a really enjoyable few days and hope to return to this property at some point - we relished the feeling that we were actually living in this beautiful city for a few days!

“ Perfectly located for the sights of Florence ”

This is a beautifully presented apartment perfectly located for the sights of Florence. The rooms have been carefully furnished with comfortable furniture and pretty pictures and ornaments. It is spacious and has wonderfully efficient aircon.

Local buses can get you to the railway station, the airport and Fiesole very easily. It is just a stroll into the city centre. Nearby there is a very friendly cafe for breakfast and just a bit further away are local restaurants (including a mobile van for local tripe sandwiches - I dodged this local delicacy).

The host is a very helpful and recommends places to see, and to eat at. I will return.

Around Via della Colonna

An elegant Florentine neighbourhood with all the services one could need, corner delis and bars, restaurants, even a hair salon and gym… though probably enough exercise is gained by walking and admiring the architecture and beauty of the city.

Located within easy reach of all the important historic sites, just a stone’s throw from the spectacular Duomo and Baptistery. to the west is the porticoed Piazza della Santissima Annunziata which houses the museum ‘Ospedale dei Innocenti’ (Hospital of the Innocents) and Archaeological Museum, as well as the church of its own name sake.

The imposing cobbled square is dominated by the massive statue of Ferdinando I de' Medici mounted on his horse. To the east towards the leafy Piazza d'Azeglio, which is centered with a lovely little park and surrounded by imposing Florentine ‘palazzos’.

You can mosey down to Ponte Vecchio and cross over the Arno into the Oltrarno district within 15 minutes. There is also public transport that with a single ticket can take you all over the city, including the train station and up to Fiesole. Situated a little further is the lively area of Sant Ambrogio neighbor, with the colourful fresh produce market filled with Tuscan specialities, the monthly flea market, restaurants and every time of store imaginable!

Nearby Activities

  • Excellent bars 5 minutes walk
  • Plenty of restaurants nearby
  • Spedale degli Innocenti, 5 minutes walk
  • Uffizi Gallery 15 mins walk
