5 Great Restaurants in Pistoia: A Culinary Journey
Pistoia is a charming Tuscan town with a variety of delightful dining options. Here’s a look at five restaurants where you can experience both traditional flavors and innovative dishes. Each one has something unique to offer, so if you're in town, these are not to be missed!
1. La BotteGaia
La BotteGaia offers an authentic taste of Tuscan cuisine in the heart of Pistoia. Located just a few steps from Piazza della Sala, the restaurant is known for its rustic charm and a menu that highlights seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. The house-made pasta dishes, such as pappardelle with wild boar, are a must-try, and they take pride in their curated wine list featuring regional favorites. I ate here with my family in October 2024 and it was a real pleasure - the staff were welcoming and excellent at dealing with a toddler and our various dietary requirements!

2. Osteria in via dell'Abbondanza
Situated in a quiet corner of Pistoia, Osteria dell'Abbondanza is beloved for its traditional ambiance and hearty Tuscan dishes. What makes this place special is its emphasis on ancient recipes passed down through generations, such as their rich and flavorful ribollita (a traditional vegetable and bread soup). The trattoria's cozy and warm atmosphere gives a perfect taste of rustic Tuscany.

3. Caffè Valiani
Caffè Valiani offers more than just great coffee—it’s a café, restaurant, and cultural hub all in one. Nestled near Piazza del Duomo, it's a historical café where you can savor both a quick espresso and a full meal. Their seafood dishes are particularly noteworthy, with fresh catches from the nearby Tuscan coast, and the space regularly hosts art exhibitions and live music, adding a creative vibe to your dining experience.

I ate here last time I visited Pistoia, it's a simple trattoria with good dishes and space for outdoor dining. They have typical Florentine food such as Lampredotto, delicious but not for everyone. It's not expensive and the staff are friendly.
