Quercia

Quercia

Quercia was something special

Quercia was something special. The whole complex is beautifully laid out, in a stunning position in the hills, and has the best pool I've experienced. Lucia, the owner, is friendly, helpful and generous. Our initial journey was considerably longer than it should have been because of an accident on the motorway, but she waited up till midnight to welcome us. Fresh tomatoes, eggs, and onions just for us to help ourselves. Local wine at 4 euros a litre. Everything is quite simple, but having been to Montestigliano in 2000, that seems to be the Tuscan style. We didn't lack for anything. The only drawback for some might be the hill track to get there (1 km driving from the main road), but it's OK as long as you take everything slowly!

we were blown away by the infinity pool

Service rating : After a number of years booking holidays online through big brand travel agencies (i.e. Booking.com, Expedia etc), what a refreshing experience booking through 'Invitation to Tuscany' was! As this trip to Italy was for my first wedding anniversary, I wanted to ensure that this trip was extra special for my wife and I.

From the outset, the booking process was very clear. Moreover Lyn was always on hand to respond promptly to any questions I had about the area plus any additional queries I had in advance of my trip.

The personal touches were the bits that really stood out over previous experiences booking through more recognised, but less personable providers. The information pack received before our trip was fantastic and proved to be a very handy guide on our day trips. All of the information we had received both before and to take with us on our trip meant that it wasn't necessary to contact Lyn or our designated contact provided in advance during our stay in Italy. No doubt the level of service would have still been great though had we needed to.

What more can I say other than it was a pleasure to book with you. The villa and our hosts were brilliant. Thanks also for all of your tips which helped me to plan our activities. We wouldn't hesitate to book again with Invitation to Tuscany when looking at our next stay in Italy. Product: A very picturesque drive down from Bologna to Southern Tuscany where we had coordinates in our Sat Nav, allowing us to find our villa in Quercia with ease.

We were greeted upon arrival by our host Lucia. After unloading the luggage from our car, Lucia showed us around the property. Not only were we impressed by our villa with complimentary touches (bread, olive oil, coffee etc) we were blown away by the infinity pool, with incredible picture postcard views overlooking the sprawling woods. Couldn't wait to jump in...and we did, a number of times during our stay.

For my wife and I, the villa was situated in a great area for us to drive to various areas of Tuscany (such as Siena) in good time, and certainly to have quick access to purchase essentials, typically from Coop in nearby Ciciano. I must stress though that we barely needed much food as Lucia and her husband were happy for us to pick at their homegrown produce of garlic, butternut squash, onions, tomatoes etc at any time, which we did! We both enjoy throwing meals together so it was great to use local Italian produce for this purpose.

Being young and adventurous, we often didn't return to the Villa from our day trips until fairly late. When we did, there was a communal area where we sat down with Lucia, her husband and some German guests staying at another villa on the estate to share stories (in GCSE German and broken Italian) over a bottle (or two) of tuscan wine and nibbles. This was lots of fun.

We couldn't have asked for a more idyllic, authentically rustic Italian villa with nicer hosts. The location was also great. If ever in Southern Tuscany again, I will definitely head back.

Note: the only thing I would say would be to take or purchase some insect repellant in Italy for your stay if you are susceptible to being bitten, especially if venturing into far flung regions away from any of the cities.

Really recommend this location

Stayed at Stalla and Arcata together with another family and our children. The estate is beautiful, comfortable with high standard and very nice interior. Great pool and possibilities for relaxation or do sports if you prefer that. Cooked our food but also went to nearby villages to visit trattorias, restaurants and Osterias. The owner is an energetic wonderful lady always ready to help out to make the stay as pleasant as possible. Really recommend this location and especially if you go with friends or family but there is enough space even if there are other families around. Great location to visit Siena, Montepulciano, Arezzo, Florence etc. Just perfect vacation!!

...we definitely recommend this property to anyone

We thoroughly enjoyed a 2 week stay in this beautifully restored farmhouse. The house was tastefully and carefully refurbished; a nice combination of antique and modern. We enjoyed relaxing by the large swimming pool; from our location we started out on various bike tours and sightseeing tours by car. Our friendly host was very helpful by giving us directions, tips and restaurant recommendations. We hope to return for another stay; we definitely recommend this property to anyone seeking a quiet, comfortable and luxurious accommodation in the midst of the beautiful Tuscan countryside.

We stayed at Rustico the last week of May ...it was HEAVEN!!!

We stayed at Agriturismo Elvira - Rustico the last week of May in Casole d'Elsa. It was HEAVEN!!! Elvira was warm and welcoming and took care of us as if we were part of her own family. I stayed there with my husband, friend and toddler and it was a place never to be forgotten by any of us. The grounds are immaculately kept, the apartment (Rustico) was super clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. It was cold but we even used the great swimming pool. My son loved running around the property and we loved sitting out in the sun and having a meal. This is a place that we will be going to for years to come! It is also a fairly short drive from Siena and an hour and a half drive from Florence. I recommend renting a car as it makes it a whole lot easier to see the beauty that surrounds this home. This home exceeded our expectations. Thank you Elvira!

...really enjoyed our recent stay at Rustico

We really enjoyed our recent stay at Rustico. We thought the property was in a beautiful setting with spectacular views. The owners were lovely and very helpful and certainly made us welcome. The pool was one of the highlights of the property and was perfect for our 8 yr old daughter.

The villa was as described on your website apart from the TV was missing and it took 3 days to get this setup to watch. We felt the villa was also missing a few basic supplies, like kitchen roll, oven glove, toilet rolls, soap, which we had to purchase. I think the most useful information that would have been nice to know at the beginning of our vacation was that there was a supermarket less than a mile down the street. There was no mention of this in the folder in the villa or in the information emailed to us. We only found out from the owners towards the end of our visit, after spending almost a whole day driving to the PAM supermarket several miles away. I appreciate this is a much larger supermarket but the local one had a good selection of basic supplies and groceries.

We enjoyed the peaceful location of the villa without being too far from restaurants and the village. We would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in the Tuscan countryside and is interested in visiting the larger, more touristy towns like Siena and San Gimignano, which are only a short drive away.

We hope these comments are helpful to you and future visitors to Rustico.

Clean property good facilities

Clean property, good facilities at both property and local town. Only thing we could pick up on is that the printed directions given from Pisa airport were incorrect for the last couple of miles or so (they erroneously jump to directions from south). Confusion added half hour to journey but figured out eventually. Didn't detract from a great week.

This place is possibly the most tranquil place on earth

This review is for Faggio, the apartment next door:

What a haven! This place is possibly the most tranquil place on earth. Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, Lucia came out to find us and lead us to her beautiful villa. From that moment, she was the most attentive and generous host. Nothing was too much trouble and we enjoyed her recommendations of placed to visit that were a little off the beaten track. She recommended and booked restaurants for us and even arranged bike hire. She told us about some tours too, although we didn't end up doing any. The place is gorgeous. We particularly enjoyed hearing the stories that Emilio told us about how he built the place. And everything functions brilliantly with small details to make your holiday super comfortable. Huge trays for carrying food to your individual patios, enough nooks to sit and enjoy every view at every time of day and I counted at least four different coffee making gadgets in our cupboards. The pool is possibly the nicest pool I have ever swum in. It's stone lined, three metres deep at one end with an infinity edge. It's also salt water and kind on the skin. It's fresh and the views are spectacular. It's a tranquil spot, even if you children are charging around further up the hill. What sums it up is its simplicity. It's elegant a beautiful but it's uncomplicated which is exactly what we wanted for our holiday. All in all, it was a refreshing and relaxing holiday but it was the little things which exceeded expectations. We'd love to return again, perhaps in October for the wine, olive oil and chestnut festivals which sound amazing.

A delightful Villa with large airy cool rooms

Castelonchio it self was a delightful Villa with large airy cool rooms. The owners Barry & Karen made us very welcome and I hope we were no trouble to them.

We visited Assisi and viewed the Basilica of St Francis, the Cathedral and the Basilica di Santa Chiara and had an excellent meal outside on the street at Trattoria Da Erminio on Via Montecavallo.

Also took the boat trip to Isola Maggiore, I was quite tickled that the boat was run by Italia Bus, again had a local meal at Albergo Ristonant da Sauro.

We were were taken with the "Walled" adjacent town of Castiglione del Lago. We had a lovely outdoor meal on a very hot afternoon at "Osteria Calandrino" on Via Vittorio Emanuele not far from the local Hospital. Hope spelling is correct all taken from Google Street view!

On our last night out we saw 2 wild boar when dining at the "Squirrel" "Lo Scoiattolo" restaurant up in the hills, we were on the balcony!! Very unexpected! The locals were throwing food to them from the balcony!

A great place, highly recommended.

We had a fantastic time at Castelonchio. The property is really impressive with lots of space, a wonderful pool and large grounds plus the hosts are incredibly accommodating and helpful.

The accommodation is nice and spacious for 6 people with big and airy bedrooms. Everything is modernised, comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. The large eating area outside is amazing with great views over the lake and a lovely spot to spend your evenings.

We walked down to the town on a couple of occasions for meals and the local restaurants are great. There is so much to do in the area both around the lake and beyond so you will have no trouble filling your time between enjoying the property and getting out and about. The property also has good access so you can get out to places really easily.

The owners are on hand to help if needed and are full of good suggestions on what to do and where to go. The accommodation is at the side of the property and the grounds are spacious so it’s nice and secluded from the main house.

A great place, highly recommended.

The views from the pool and eating areas are spectacular

We had a wonderful holiday at Castelonchio. The views from the pool and eating areas are spectacular. We never tired of the marvellous panorama over lake Trasimeno and the surrounding hills. Being up the hill also meant we had pleasant breezes in the heat of August.

Barry and Karen are very kind and thoughtful hosts. They were so kind providing things for us (a praying mantis in a jam jar was a particular favourite of our 8 year old and we have our lavender pouches, made with lavender from the pool, at home to remind us.). They are full of useful info which they happily share - our trips to Sienna and Cortona were made so much easier with Barry’s great directions and helpful places to park for instance.

We enjoyed many meals out locally on recommendation from Barry and Karen. We enjoyed ambling into Tuoro to eat (but weren’t so keen on walking back up the hill afterwards!!). Barry and Karen really know everything so there is little we can add. There are a lot of local dishes made from fish from the lake which are great.

The house is very comfortable, very nicely decorated and spotless!

The area is brilliant. Really easy to get around and we loved Perugia and Sienna (on Palio day!) which are easy drives. I cycled the 65kms round lake Trasimeno early one morning and it was fun and interesting.

..Villa Castelonchio was the highlight of our trip

We are just back from a very enjoyable 5 week European holiday, which included 2 weeks staying at Villa Castelonchio, Tuoro Sul Trasimeno, in Umbria.

Our stay at Villa Castelonchio was the highlight of our trip and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Barry and Karen where the perfect hosts and couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. Their input on what to see and do in the area was fantastic, the only downside was that on the first night they introduced us to……Aperol Spritzer which we have developed a real taste for and now stock the ingredients ready for the coming summer in New Zealand and also sent us to their favourite local restaurant where the Pizza is superb and we will be hard-pressed to find anything close to in NZ.

The villa was everything that your website said it would be and we couldn’t have been happier. The fact that it had a full kitchen was a godsend for us as we like to prepare our own meals for some of the time we are away. It was well appointed and the 2 level layout meant that the other couple we had staying with us for some of the time could have their own space.

The villa’s location just a couple of minutes out of the Village meant that it was lovely and peaceful in a rural setting surrounded by olive groves and being just over the Tuscan/Umbria border meant that all the amazing tourist destinations were a short drive away, or as we did on a couple of occasions, a short train journey from the local station.

Barry and Karen keep the place immaculate and between the Aperol Spritzers, the Pizza and the swimming pool we didn’t want to leave. We would have no hesitation in recommending Villa Castelonchio to anyone wishing to have a superb holiday in this location.

We had an absolutely lovely time at Castelonchio

We had an absolutely lovely time at Castelonchio. Barry and Karen our hosts greeted us most warmly and invited us to coffee the morning after our arrival to tell us more about the fascinating area around Lake Trasimeno. Our little grandchildren ran to the pool in their bathing costumes before we had even unpacked the cars and from then on it was the pool or nothing for them so it was with difficulty that we explored the endlessly intriguing small towns around the Lake. The immediate area is fascinating and the property is well within reach of the more major towns of Siena and Florence, Perugia and Arezzo - that is if the children will leave the pool and the grown ups will leave the beautiful garden with its amazing views.

We had beautiful day trips to Siena, Orvieto, Gubbio & San Gimignano as well as a very enjoyable boat trip out to one of the islands in Lake Trasimeno. ....really great personal service from Invitation to Tuscany

We all had a fantastic time thanks, and I can’t believe that it was a week since we left to come home!

The villa was beautiful and really well fitted out. Barry & Karen were the prefect hosts – there for advice if you wanted it but left you space for yourselves the rest of the time. The welcome drink and restaurant recommendations were most appreciated, together with all the food and drink in the Welcome Pack.

All of the local restaurants we went to were ones recommended, and we enjoyed really good local food, at a very treasonable cost.

We went to Siena and Cortona whilst we were there, and some of the smaller towns around the lake – all very easy to get to thanks to Barry’s instructions in the villa.

The big hit with the most important person, our 11 year-old granddaughter, was of course the huge pool. In fact our son and daughter-in-law used it quite a lot as well.

I will, and have already, recommend it to friends, and I hope that we can go back as a family someday.

Finally, a big thanks to you and Dan for all your help in the year since we first booked it, really great personal service from Invitation to Tuscany.

..stayed at Castelonchio 2 years ago and loved it so much we returned

We stayed at Castelonchio 2 years ago and loved it so much we returned again this year. The English owners Barry & Karen are super hosts (they live next door) and are able to offer sound advice on all things local together with a warm welcome. The accomodation is lovely with 3 big bedrooms and 2 'well appointed' bathrooms. Bed linen from 'The White House' and everything really comfy and clean. Kitchen well stocked with the necessary implements if you want to practice your Italian cookery skills as we did. Beautiful view over Lago Trasimeno from your little balcony outside the main double bedroom and the outside terrace which is perfect for breakfast. There's a decent supermarket nearby - within walking distance if you run out of wine but 5 mins by car if you need heavier supplies. Good local (and cheap) rail links to tourist towns ie Assisi if you don't want to be a slave to the car. Passignano 10 mins away for some lovely restaurants near the lake. If it’s convenient then we recommend flying to Perugia as it's an easy drive. Enjoy!

I can see us going back soon

The house was comfortable and spacious, it felt fresh and everything we needed was there, inside the house and out; lots of garden, ample parking, we enviously eyed the pool but were there too early in the year for a swim, so contented ourselves instead with wandering around the olive grove, enjoying the views of Lake Trasimeno and beyond. And to misquote someone, the angels were in the details: a bottle of home grown olive oil in a kitchen cupboard, some fresh milk and cold wine waiting in the fridge when we arrived, and joy of joys, the kitchen knives were properly sharp! It is a house that has been thought through, and through again.

The hosts Barry and Karen were helpful and friendly - even when our 5 year old sneaked off and hid behind the wintering lemon tree, for a full 20 minutes, enjoying our increasingly frantic flapping. (It was reassuring to realise that small adventurous children cannot escape without the key to the gate.) They gave us suggestions for things to visit and see which were perfect for our family, with genuinely useful and detailed information; like knowing exactly where to park on our trips to Assisi and Cortona, or printing off the ferry timetable for Isola Maggiore on the lake, and which of the local train stations to choose for the best services to Orvieto (with its funicular, extraordinary double helix well, caves: a perfect day out for both adults and kids.)The local village - in walking distance - had everything we needed. A pizzeria - delicious pizza, good value and welcoming, a well-stocked supermarket, and much more that we didn't get to explore. It is a really rich and interesting part of Italy to visit, with more to see and visit than is possible in a week, or even two. I can see us going back

The hosts, Barry and Karen, were very helpful and attentive. The villa was in excellant condition and fully equipped. Location was good and having a supermarket a mile away was very convenient. The panoramic view of the lake was fantastic from Castelonchio. My favourite thing was the swimming pool, surrounded by lavender bushes. Great to smell whilst you were swimming and listening to the bees was relaxing too. Great summer holiday memories. We have a lovely stay at Castleonchio. The house is spacious and is well furnished. the views to lake Trasimeno are fantastic and there is a great eating area which takes advantage of the view and was a great place to dine and enjoy a glass of wine. the swimming pool is really nice and because the owners cover it up each night was really warm which was a joy as we have stayed in villas in tuscany that the pool was unusable in high season as they were so cold. The owners live in the attached villa and they were a mine of really useful local information and were fantastic hosts with nothing being too much trouble. Our recent stay at Castelonchio was superb

Our recent stay at Castelonchio was superb. The villa was first class and the owners really know how to make their guests feel welcome. Their knowledge of the local area and the little tips on how to get around were immensely helpful. We were a family of 6, which included myself, my wife, 2 grandparents and 2 Daughters of ages 10 & 14 and we found enough variety during the 2 weeks to keep everyone happy. We swam and used the facilities at the local lake, Parco Del Lago Trasimeno, sunbathed around the Villas pool with its beautiful surroundings, went site seeing in many of the local towns, all soaked in history and tradition, and ventured out to Rome: only a 2 hour train journey.

Enjoying a good meal was an important part of our holiday and we had great experiences at the local restaurants with one particularly nice tavern within walking distance. Catering for ourselves was also easy to do as the Villa was fully equipped with all the utensils we needed, including the most important thing a BBQ.

I wholeheartedly recommend staying at Castelonchio if you are looking for a holiday that encompasses traditional Italy whilst staying in total comfort.

This house is always a delight

This house is always a delight, the rooms are clean, crisp and comfortable, the views of the lake so pretty, breakfast, lunch and dinner on the terrace always has a stunning backdrop. We enjoyed exploring the area including the lakeside town of Passignano sul Trasimeno, just a 10 minute drive from the house, where we enjoyed seafood in some new favourite restaurants. You can take boat rides to the islands or just paddle on the shore, there is something for everyone.

Barry and Karen were great hosts

We had a fabulous week at Castelonchio. Barry and Karen were great hosts. I was perhaps a little apprehensive about the "shared" aspect of the accommodation, particularly with 3 fairly small and noisy children, but I needn't have been. The annexe was large, comfortable and private. The pool was beautiful, as in fact was the location generally, and although we were effectively sharing Barry and Karen's home, we did not feel like we were intruding. They were there, but somehow not! (If that makes sense?!)

Barry recommended places to go and see, which were all worth the trip (again we had been slightly apprehensive about sightseeing with small children in the height of Summer). We ate out a couple of times at Da Silvano's, a pizza place in the village, which had good food and a friendly owner (Omar). We also tried a more up market fish restaurant in nearby Passignano, which was also good.

All in all, highly recommended. We would definitely go back.

We had a very relaxing stay

You will need to take care with the road leading to the accommodation as it can be steep and narrow in parts. But the villa is in an enviable location with excellent views of the surrounding hills and villages. We had a very relaxing stay. The kitchen is excellent, well equipped and very convenient for cooking. Bedroom very comfortable. The swimming pool is wonderful, with good sun-beds, and we liked very much the hammocks on the lawn at the front of the villa. There are a number of places outside to eat, so you can choose depending upon the time of day. Mario is a very welcoming, helpful and generous host, always available but also very conscious for the privacy of the guests.

We spent there 1 week which was not enough for us. I would recommend to stay for 2 or even more weeks so you can discover the whole area and enjoy umbrian food, nature, history...one thing should be highlighted here, the owner - Mario Santoro. His helpfull attitude and personlity made our stay much more pleasant. Thank you

..the perfect hideaway in Italy's heartland

Located on a remote hill with a stunning view of the breathtaking landscape of Umbria, the Casa Umbra is the perfect hideaway in Italy's heartland. The elegant and luxurious residence is fully equipped with everything one needs for a perfect vacation. One can relax by the pool or read in one of the hammocks overlooking the hillside. The three bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms are spacious and provide perfect privacy even when sharing the house. The kitchen is fully equipped and even though one is fully surrounded by nature there is a fast internet connection, a TV and telephone. While it could be easy to loose oneself in the serenity of the place and just never leave the villa, one is still very close to the gems of Italian art and culture. Beautiful must see towns such as Todi, Orvieto, Perugia, and Assisi are just a short drive away and offer fantastic dining and outstanding cultural experiences. Me and my family would have loved to stay the whole summer and hope to come back soon.

We are already planning a return

We had an amazing time! There are a lot of things to discuss, but overall it was a magical place and Paolo is just the best!! He helps with EVERYTHING - train schedules, reservations, you name it, and he is just a lovely human. I think that having so many of us (demanding people) probably gave them a good breaking in...

Hopefully Joan hasn't bothered everyone any more - she was quite a pill...but, we dealt with it :)

The house is truly unique and beautiful kept/manicured gardens, etc... However, it is much farther to the train in Prato than we thought, so you may want to make sure you tell people how far away it is positioned from points of interest. Over a half an hour to Florence (especially with commute traffic) and about 20 minutes to the Prato train, etc.. Picking up the rental car in Prato went well, sweet Paolo took us both ways.

It's a pretty steep and graveled walk to the little town of Bacchereto - too rough for the 80-85 year olds - but, with our car we brought them down the hill, we liked hanging out at the little bar/store, super cute area. We thought it would be a bit easier to get to the town and that there might be one more restaurants a bit closer-by, but we made the best of it and we cooked a ton of food, even used the BBQ. We also had the cook come in one night which was delicious, she is a joy. The owner is very sweet as well, but only Italian speaking.

The apartments are lovely, however, there's quite a bit of a steep uphill to the main villa, it was a bit tough for Mary Ann because she has a bum knee, so most of the time my husband fetched her in our rental car. Jean also commented that they told her she had to buy dish soap and toilet paper and all that in the apartment, which seemed odd for a home rental? I hear they are wildly popular, almost all booked for 2019!

Also, the 12th century (rocky bumpy) floor in the bar room was a bit hard to maneuver for the older folks. Rooms were all spacious and the air conditioning was appreciated in them! The place is well-kept and very clean and you definitely feel like you are having a truly special experience. They are all very friendly and it was comforting knowing the caretaker was always there in case of emergency.

We Americans are very different when it comes to paper consumption. We had to ask them (a lot) for more toilet paper, because we were using so much to blow our noses, from allergies LOL. I am sure they thought we were eating the stuff - we had to bother them a lot for tissues as well. We also bought paper towels and even some soap ourselves, so it may make sense to tell renters what they do or do not provide. When you go to Co-Op or the PAM supermarkets they pack the groceries in plastic bags which they use for inside the garbage cans, they also did not provide garbage bags which seems a bit odd. We told Paolo the owner should keep a closet full of toilet paper and paper towels and tissue so that when guests ask for it Paolo can hand it to them, rather than waiting for her to get to the market and bring it back :) The only napkins were cloth so we purchased those as well. All in all the kitchen was fairly well-stocked with the exception of paper products. We used the dishwasher so much we broke it - just kidding, I think the electrical got overloaded and blew it out. All ended up being fine, but would have been nice to know what we needed to buy, sort of set expectations.

We loved L'Amante Bistecca there and thought Carmignano is really charming - we enjoyed Osteria Su Pei Canto there...we had a great agriturismo lunch at Fattoria Bacchereto Winery - the daughter took us around and a delightful man prepared us the most delish, fresh bruschetta we've ever had - and it's VERY close to the villa. In Florence we fell in love with the truffle pasta at Osteria Pastella a friend had recommended, just delicious...

The only thing I would tell people is that it takes quite a while to get anywhere - and it's a bit of a walk to the town, and steep and to shop ahead. We thoroughly enjoyed our lazy days at the pool and it's really a very popular winery called Collina San Biagio, we loved the table red wine at 10 euros a bottle we drank more than 22 bottles of it!! They have won a ton of awards and many restaurants serve it. Not sure why you don't promote the villa as that name instead of Il Convento?

I also have the names of the drivers we really liked - there's a local guy, Massimo, Paolo had him take us to the restaurant our first night - he was lovely and speaks pretty good English :)

We are already planning a return in 2020 or so - thank you for everything!!

We had a marvellous week and really loved the Villa. There was plenty of room and the kitchen was fitted out with everything we needed. It was a great location and very child friendly. A Tuscan treat

The apartment was lovely, perfect for 2, although with the help of our hosts we managed to comfortably fit in our adult daughter. The location is idyllic, staff charming and the wine is superb. On arrival, tired and hot, we could have done with some help transferring luggage to the apartment ( not near the car park). We did point out but it wasn’t too much of an issue, that the fridge only kept thinks slightly cool not chilled. Overall it was a super break and we would most certainly return.

A gem of a place

This is a little gem of a place! Clean and comfortable in an excellent location with a fantastic pool. Excellent location in a small village.

There is a very good restaurant 2 minutes walk away and the shops are a short drive. We would recommend the wine tour and tasting as, apart from being fantastic wine, it is also very informative. We had a car for the duration of our holiday, collecting and returning at Pisa Airport.

After discussion with Invitation to Tuscany we went with EuroCar and were very pleased with the car and the service we received. We had purchased a European Garmin prior to our trip and this served us very well. The roads are easy to drive but having the Sat Nav just made things so much easier.

We had a fantastic time at Valdera

We had a fantastic time at Valdera. The people we met in association with the villa were so friendly and helpful. Any contact we made always had a quick response with a smile.

Valdera was spotless and the bedding and towels were of a good standard. An expected nice touch was the offer of a change of towels mid week. The sun towels were also really lovely to use.

It was great to be able to walk to the village shop and the restaurant was of a much better standard than I imagined it would be, which is lovely if you return a few times. The chef was also really friendly.

The location of Valdera is brilliant. We had a great time visiting the towns and cities (this is our first time to Tuscany and the first time in a private villa).

Dan kindly recommended a restaurant for us to go to on our route from Arrezzo to Iano which we couldn't access as there was an old car rally taking place in the village of the restaurant. Unsure of where to eat, we carried on and ended up asking in the Tourist Office at Gambassi for a recommendation. I don't know whether it was the relief of finding somewhere pleasant to eat with extreme hunger 😊 but we all really enjoyed sitting in and eating in Beltempo Ristorante www.beltemporistorante.com. It is a new modern restaurant in the town and it was extremely pleasant. I would say it is great for lunch and is informal. It was one of those places where you hope they succeed as the service, enthusiasm, food and atmosphere was lovely.

We had a wonderful time at Valdera

We had a wonderful time at Valdera. It's a lovely house in such a beautiful place! The house was great and we were impressed with how well the gardens and pool were tended. It felt remote enough but great to be able to walk to a shop and restaurant. My only comment would be that it could be better equipped with 'basics' - bin liners, food storage bags or boxes, matches etc. Also non-breakable stuff to take down to the pool.

We ate at Antico Borgo in the village. It was nice to be able to walk and it's a straightforward restaurant with pizza and pasta. Lovely views from the outside area. We made the mistake of not booking on the last night so had to eat inside - it seems to get busy at weekends. We had breakfast in the other cafe - La Chicca, which was nice. The village shop is really good and well stocked, although expensive compared with the supermarket.

Dan asked for comments about our hotel in Lucca. We stayed in L'Antica Bifore which we loved. It is a four room b&b in the centre and our room was in part of a medieval tower. It was very relaxed, a friendly couple and lovely breakfast. Parking not very convenient if you had lots of luggage. We had dinner at da Pasquale which was the best meal of our trip. Pasquale was the most amazing, enthusiastic and knowledgeable host who looked after his guests so well. He gave us a bottle of olive oil which we enjoyed through our holiday!

We had a wonderful time at San Michele!

We had a wonderful time at San Michele! The property itself is wonderful. We enjoyed the building itself which worked very well for our extended-family group. We loved walking the gardens and visiting the animals and our hosts were terrific. It was also great that the train in Arezzo was so convenient for day trips. Even though we had a rental car, sometimes the train was easier than dealing with parking at our destination. Things we loved the most: Cooking class offered by Patrizia and Pietro – this was so much fun! We all loved the experience and the wonderful food! Trip to Florence by train Two great restaurants in Arezzo: Pappa e Cena (Via Romana, 133, 52100 Arezzo AR, Italy) and Osteria Dei Mercanti (Via di Ser Petraccolo, 52100 Arezzo AR, Italy)

The one tip we have, at least for American guests is to rent a car with automatic transmission. The road up the hill is steep and narrow in places and we were glad to have an automatic, even though we know how to drive a manual transmission.

This is a house made to be enjoyed

I visited San Michele at the end of a long day's driving; I had been out seeing a lot of houses around Tuscany and was tired. The welcome that Patrizia and Pietro gave me, coupled with one of the best views I have ever seen and a swimming pool perfectly placed to take advantage of it soon gave me my energy back. This is a building on a site redolent with history, lovingly nursed back to life after decades of being hidden under brambles - ask P & P to show you the photographs of what the site looked like when they bought it! This is a house made to be enjoyed - there are myriad delights down in the plains toward Arezzo and in the hills beyond, but this is a place where I would want to just lie by the pool, relax and soak in the astounding view, day after day. A favourite!

The villa was everything it should be

We stayed at San Michele in Arezzo in Autumn and just had a fabulous time. The villa was everything it should be. The rooms were large, the views were fantastic and our host and hostess were incredibly helpful and welcoming. There were two washing machines and drying racks. The pool was fantastic. Our hosts, Patrizia and Pietro did a wonderful homemade pizza dinner for us, another fabulous dinner in their cantina and also invited us to a private party in their home. The linens were changed weekly including our comforter. Softer and or extra pillows would be nice. The villa was at the top of a small mountain and overlooked the entire town. The directions to the villa on our GPS were great. It is narrow in places but we drove a large van that held seven and it is doable. There is also an electric gate to go through so you could not possibly feel safer. The air conditioning worked as well as american a/c but we didn't need it except for the first few days. We slept with the windows open and it was heavenly. Windows were screened, but we did not notice any flies or mosquitos while there. There is an absolutely amazing bakery not far from the villa called Panificio Pandemonio in Arezzo. Their almond biscotti, raisin coffeecake, and breads are unbeatable - Don't miss it. There is also a fabulous grocery store, Ipercoop, that matches any from the U.S. Go to the deli meat section and splurge. All those wonderful meats and cheeses are half the price you'd pay back home.

This place is possibly the most tranquil place on earth

Perfectly located for the sights of Florence

This is a beautifully presented apartment perfectly located for the sights of Florence. The rooms have been carefully furnished with comfortable furniture and pretty pictures and ornaments. It is spacious and has wonderfully efficient aircon.

Local buses can get you to the railway station, the airport and Fiesole very easily. It is just a stroll into the city centre. Nearby there is a very friendly cafe for breakfast and just a bit further away are local restaurants (including a mobile van for local tripe sandwiches - I dodged this local delicacy).

The host is a very helpful and recommends places to see, and to eat at. I will return.
