Tuscany is a beautiful place to go horse riding – and has a long and noble tradition. The Butteri, or cowboys of the Maremma, south of Siena have long herded their long horned white cattle on horseback, and were once challenged by Buffalo Bill and his circus, when they were touring Europe. Pleasingly, the ‘Butteri’ came out on top, and they remember it with pride.
