In the small harbour of Porto Azzurro, on the island of Elba off the Tuscan coast, Baia Blu's perfect terrace looks out over the Mediterranean. Set into the roof of the building, the terrace has dusky orange walls on three sides, and opens southwards toward palm trees and the sail boats moored in the tiny harbour. This is the perfect setting for a glass of white wine, perhaps accompanied by a plate of seafood spaghetti; or maybe try one of the delightful restaurants in the town. You can hear the sounds of the sea drifting up to this beautiful terrace, and the light clicking of sailing boat masts in the wind - a delight.
The apartment is on the top floor of an historic building in the main square, just next to the church and boasts glorious views over the bay. The entrance is into a living room with a comfortable sofa and armchair; from here French windows lead out on to the terrace. To the left of the entrance is a small, well-equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and plenty of equipment, including an English style kettle. A corridor leads from the living room to a double bedroom, a small twin bedroom and a shower-room. The double bedroom also has French windows leading out to the terrace, making it a beautiful place to wake up - the terrace is quite safe and not overlooked, so one can sleep with the doors open and wake to the sound of the sea.
Around Baia Blu
Elba is reached by ferry from the port of Piombino, in about an hour - or half an hour in the fast ferry. Cars can come over but are more of a hindrance than a help in high season, making this a great place to ditch the car: fly to Pisa, take the train to Piombino, the ferry to Portoferraio and a taxi to Porto Azzurro. One can even hire a boat while here and explore all the tiny coves along the coastline. The island is also criss-crossed with excellent walking paths, some up the hills that reach the surprising height of over 3000 feet. With shops and restaurants in the town, there really is no need for a car.
- The apartment is located on the top floor of an four-story building; there is no lift, but the destination and the panoramic terrace are definitely worth the climb
- As it is difficult to have high speed WiFi internet service on Elba, and in Porto Azzurro particularly, the Limited WiFi service offered in the apartment, while sufficient for checking/sending e-mails, is not up to sending high resolution photos or streaming films.
Dan: I stayed here in early May, 2013. I took a hire car over to see how easy it was, (easy - though probably worth booking if you go in August) but I could just as well have left it behind and taken a taxi from the port to Porto Azzurro. This seaside apartment is in a beautiful old fishing port, with sailing boats moored on the jetty, and palm trees lining the sea front. The flat itself is romantic - as I sat on the terrace at sunset I wished I had my wife with me, to make it perfect! Later I met the owner and friends in town and we drank an aperitivo in one of the little bars hidden in the small, winding streets - this is just a perfect place for seaside relaxing!
Laura & Lyn from the London office: We could have lived on the terrace on our October 2014 visit...... simply didn't want to leave! The apartment was equipped with everything we needed, the view was gorgeous and Porto Azzurro was a delight - we were so happy at this heavenly place that we can't wait to return!
Our Customers say:
"We found our stay at Baia Blu very comfortable. The kitchen ware was very well stocked with everything we needed, in fact probably it rates one of the best we have stayed in for that. The beaches we found were packed so a couple of days we decided to sit on the balcony. Another comfortable loungey type chair would be an advantage for sunbathing as there were 3 of us, however this would not stop us from returning as the view from the balcony was to die for and even better than the photos. I am sure we will return."
