This authentic Tuscan stone farmhouse set in the middle of 45 acres of olive groves and Holm oak woods has been lovingly restored over the course of 30 years and is now a wonderful place for any family to relax and enjoy its panoramic views. It does have a certain age to it - the kitchen dates back to the 13th century and the mulberry tree with its child-proof swing is 300 years old and once contributed to the silk industry that flourished in this area. Yet having been restored with respect and with comfort in mind, it is now quite ready to welcome the modern traveler.
Accommodation
In the Tuscan tradition, entrance is into the large kitchen with chairs around the fireplace and a dining table for 8; modern tastes have added attractive walnut cupboards and a long granite countertop that house a very well equipped kitchen. There are doors off one end of the kitchen to a double bedroom, with a corner staircase down to a large en-suite bathroom. At the other end and up a short staircase is a large twin bedroom, and another few steps from the kitchen lead up to a level on which there Is a double bedroom, a large shower room and the sitting room that has a door leading to the side garden and the gazebo which overlooks the pool. All rooms have comfortable country furniture and terracotta floors, chestnut beamed ceilings and the thick stone walls that do a great job of keeping the house cool in the middle of summer. Additional accommodation is located in a separate cottage which offers a double bedroom /sitting room and ensuite shower room and, around the corner of the cottage, a summer kitchen and dining room whose wide double doors frame a wonderful view of the nearest olive grove.
Around Lo Spugno
Part of the delight of Lo Spugno is the obvious joy and thought the owners put into how best to have fun in what the house and the land had to offer. They placed the gazebo and the pool, with its furnished surround, in the perfect place to enjoy the view, and built paths down to the fresh natural spring pond and up to the furnished shepherd's hut that crowns the highest olive grove. And they discovered all the best places to stop in nearby Radda and other Chianti villages and have left notes so that you might discover them as well.
