  • Guest cottage: 1 double bedroom with ensuite bathroom and furnished terraces.
  • Location:
  • Rentals run: Friday to Friday
With its panoramic pool a short distance below the main house, Podere Le Mandrie sits high to enjoy its gardens and a wide Tuscan sky. Guests who choose the cottage have a furnished patio and views of the nearby terraced olive grove. All bedrooms in the main house are on the upper floor, with this double the largest of the three. The views from the pool embrace only a world of green and only a rare cloud.

To the south of Siena, where the bare rolling landscape of the Crete Senese gives way to the wooded hills bordering Ville di Corsano, narrow roads venture in to a territory long associated with traditional husbandry. That a large farmhouse in this region was chosen for a luxurious transformation is a boon to visitors, for they are thus surrounded by the bounty of the land yet enjoy great comfort and the beauty of a tastefully designed home. Podere Le Mandrie sits high and consequently the panorama from the swimming pool is open and full of distant hilltops and a sea of greenery. With discreet staff on hand Monday through Friday mornings, this is a house that will pamper you, yet leave you to enjoy the natural splendour of a Tuscan hilltop.

Accommodation

Across the sea of lavender that fronts the main house is a lovely guest cottage with wrought iron table and chair at its entrance. It has a large double bedroom with hardwood floors and successful mix of styles and colour, adjoined by a spacious bathroom and French doors to a furnished back terrace overlooking a well-tended garden. Continuing along the approach walk one arrives in a large tufo stone terrace accessed both by the main structure, which houses living and sleeping quarters, and by the side building housing the kitchen and dining room. In the main house there are two living areas which stretch the depth of the building - to the right a summery green and white sitting room with comfortable sofas, to the left a library and entertainment area with a wall of films, comfortable seating and a large fireplace. Both living areas have French doors to outdoor furnished terraces that look down to the pool. A central staircase leads up to three bedrooms: a large master double bedroom with dressing room and travertine-clad bathroom, a second double bedroom with ensuite bathroom and a twin bedroom with a small ensuite shower room.

There is a festive sense of 'going out to dinner' at this property, for the dining room, in a separate building, with its fireplace and whimsical frescos is, in itself, a special place. The fact that there is a dream kitchen, spacious, wonderfully equipped, and easily set up to be the reign of a guest cook, makes it all the nicer. From the dining room there are French doors out to a covered eating area on the main patio handy to the barbecue, and other doors to an outdoor sitting room, furnished with touches of the East. Also in this building is a WC, a pantry and, on a lower level, the staff kitchen and laundry.

Around Podere Le Mandrie

While around the pool there are sunbeds, a changing cabana and a vine-covered pergola for times when shade seems a friendlier option, the extensive grounds are perfect for a ramble in the woods. When inspired to venture out the property gates, it is a short drive to the amenities of the nearest village or to an 18-hole golf course. Excellent roads to Siena, with its bustling weekly market, its famous shell-shaped piazza and its meandering streets makes this medieval gem practically a neighbour. Yet also within an hour are the beaches of the southern Tuscan coast, Chianti villages of note and spas that welcome the weary. A wonderful corner to explore, a treat of a place to call your own all the holiday long.

Our Customers say:

"I definitely want to give some feedback on Podere Le Mandrie. It was simply wonderful, the best we have stayed in Italy without doubt, and we have to thank you for it. It was everything you said and more. Beautiful house, lovely pool and the service provided by Maria and her daughter Francesca, who were absolutely charming, was first rate. With all the friends and family who came to visit us Maria's services were much needed and people still talk about the feasts that she managed put together every time we had a visitor. We had to endure the dirt track several times a day, but somehow that added to the charm of the place and underlined the fact that we were away from the crowds in a secluded and very private space. Once again, thank you so much for convincing me to take Podere Le Mandrie."

"Our stay at Podere le Mandrie was wonderful. This house and its surrounding are so marvellous that, at the very moment we have had a foot on the place, we knew it will be tears and cries when leaving and one week later it did!. I do not know where to begin, but everything was perfect. The house by itself. And the owner has strongly to be commended for the deco. Each piece of furniture is at the right place with the right fitting. The garden and numerous terraces are a must as you can read all along the day turning around the house to be on a delightful shadow. The view, especially when opening the rear door is to die for. The pool was very large, allowing for real swimming. The staff were so discreet, but so present and efficient. The cleanness of the house was really perfect upon arrival, the pool was all mornings a mirror, and when a trouble happened - namely a breakdown of the main electrical counter, the problem was fixed 3 hours later, which in Italy, on august, looks like a miracle!. We have had a true break, with an awesome feeling of peace. I just would like to give the owner our greatest thanks for allowing us to rent the house. I just want to thank your agency for this opportunity. We surely be repeaters one day, and probably on this house, if possible. And you can be sure I will tell friends and family where to go when looking for a fine stay in Tuscany. Regarding the notation on flipkey, I’m not very fond of social networks and so on. But you can copy the above-mentioned comments in your site without any problem. Thank you very much again - see you again one day."

"I just wanted to let you know what a fantastic time we had. The situation of Podere Le Mandrie is simply stunning - we really couldn't have anticipated such a beautiful panoramic view from the back of the house by the pool. The house itself was completely charming - comfortable and beautifully decorated in a fascinating yet homely way that made us feel like we were house guests of a rather smart friend rather than renting a holiday villa. The kitchen was so well equipped that we could have easily stayed put and not bothered eating out at all, but convenience to Siena meant that evenings out there were easy. We travelled around quite a bit, . however, we would have been quite happy to spend two weeks at the house without ever going out. It was gorgeous, with so many different comfortable places to sit in sun or shade at any time of the day or night. We particularly enjoyed relaxing out at the cushioned area outside the dining room at night time. I think the most outstanding thing about our stay though was the discreet but incredibly friendly service provided by the housekeeper Maria. What a lovely lady. Bruno was great working away in the garden and keeping the pool clean, but Maria worked so hard to make us comfortable and welcome. We had family over one evening, and Maria cooked us a Tuscan Banquet - highly recommended for all your visitors to do this at least once - it was delicious."
