Rome

pantheon2

Rome is a beautiful and complex city, layered with history and still echoing with drama and intrigue. Buildings like the Pantheon show this history on their own skin – built originally as a temple to all the Gods by Marcus Agrippa, rebuilt by Hadrian in 126 CE, it survived by being turned into a Christian Church, dedicated to St.Mary and the Martyrs. It is now more commonly known as S.ta Maria Rotonda and takes your breath away when you enter – the enormous dome is open to the skies in the centre, letting sun, rain and weather in. The Roman forum, the Vatican & the Sistine chapel, the Coliseum, Nero’s villa, the Lateran, the baroque churches of Bernini and Borromini, all the medieval churches and the catacombs, Trajan’s market, Castel Sant’Angelo – the list is endless. One could spend a lifetime here, but sometimes a week or two will have to do, and you can leave feeling gorged on culture and history.

Or just enjoy the restaurants and the shopping on il Corso and the culture filter in its own good time..!
